The fair might not be happening, but there are still opportunities to show off what you have learned and your talents.  This contest is open to all 4-H members and includes categories from the traditional 4-H clothing revue and the clothing department at the fair. You may enter as many cateogroies as you want. Get those sewing machines going and creative juices flowing and enter this contest!

Prizes in each grade group – K-2nd grade, 3rd -5th grade, 6th-8th grade and 9th grade and up, sponsored by the 4-H Leader’s Association.

A few rules:

Exhibitors need to be present during judging.  Judging will not be face to face this year.  Exhibitors will not have to model their garments this year.  Exhibitor will need to be able to explain their garment if asked.  Physical distancing and healthy safety precautions will be in place.  Participants will be notified of precautions ahead of contest. Email name, grade (from 2019-2020 school year), which contest (fashion or textile) and category number and description to stephanie.mezera@wisc.edu by July 24, at NOON.

Fashion Design Contest: Grades K-2nd

  1. Accessory
  2. Simple Skirt
  3. PJ Bottoms

Fashion Design Contest: Grades 3 and up:

  1. Blouse or top
  2. Skirt or Pants or capris
  3. Dress or suit
  4. Shorts
  5. Vest
  6. Accossory
  7. Costume (suitable for Halloween, Mardi Gras, etc.)
  8. Knitted/Crocheted garment
  9. Garment for lounging or nightwear
  10. Garment for sportswear, at least 2 pieces, not a dress or suit

Textile Contest: Grades K-13

Foods Contest

This is a the same Foods Revue as in previous years, jazzed up a little bit.  Have fun creating some culinary masterpieces!  Get crazy with garnishes or go simple with a classic look.  It’s up to you!

  • Members need to be present.
  • Each category needs to have a proper table setting for the category.
  • Create a menu with the category item as part of that menu.  Exhibitor needs to have a sample of that food item on the table setting.  The recipe for food item needs to be present next to table setting, along with menu.
  • Project displays should have equipment and visuals to teach an idea.
  • Members may enter as many categories as they wish.
  • There will not be face to face judging as we have had it in the past but members need to be prepared to answer questions if asked.
  • Physical distancing and healthy safety precautions will be in place.  Participants will be notified of precautions ahead of contest.
  • Email name, grade (as of 2019-2020), category number to stephanie.mezera@wisc.edu by July 24 at noon.

Grades 3 and up:

  1. Favorite food display for healthy snakc or light lunch
  2. Project display of food science exhibit
  3. Project display of a tradional recipe made healthier
  4. Favorite food display for lunch or supper
  5. Favorite food display for dinner or international dinner
  6. Book of 10 nutiritious snack, that child can help make
  7. Book of 10 nutiritious meals, that child can help make

Bake Off! 

Held on Thursday, July 30, 2020, 6:00 p.m. at Century Hall, Wauzeka

Are you bummed that you won’t be able to show off your baking skills at the Crawford County Fair this year?   Enter your creations at this year’s Bake Off!  Enter as many items as you wish, no limit.  Prizes and/or ribbons will be awarded.  Plates will be furnished for display of items.  Bring item ready to transfer to plate. Physical distancing and healthy safety precautions will be in place.  Participants will be notified of precautions ahead of contest.

Sunrise Orchard is sponsoring a $25 gift certificate for the orchard to an apple contest winner in grades 3-6 and grades 7 and up!

  5. Apple Contest Item – needs to include an apple variety that is grown in WI, include recipe with variety, do not need to bring whole item, a sample size will do

Grades 6-8: (include recipes)

  1. Muffins, either basic or one fruit included (2)
  2. Coffee Cake (1 piece)
  3. Any drop cookie (1 piece)
  4. Plain Chocolate Cake from scrach (1 piece)
  5. Apple Contest – needs to include an apple variety that is grown in WI, include recipe with variety, do not need to bring whole item, a sample size will do

Grades 9 and up: (include recipes)

  1. Coffee Cake (1 piece)
  2. Plain Angel Food Cake from scratch (1 slice)
  3. International cookie -country (2 cookies)
  4. Baked item for a special diet (i.e. – diabetic, gluten free, etc.) a sample size
  5. Apple Contest Item – needs to include an apple variety that is grown in WI, include recipe with variety, do not need to bring whole item, a sample size will do

Cake Decorating Challenge

Calling all Cake Artists!  Time to perfect your cake decorating skills and enter this year’s cake decorating contest.  All 4-H members are welcomed!

Few Rules for this contest:

  • Cakes must be decorated out of the baking pan.  Be mindful of choice of plate or cardboard for cake display.  Exhibitors need to be present during judging, however it will not be the traditional face to face judging as in past years.  Physical distancing and healthy safety precautions will be in place.  Participants will be notified of precautions ahead of contest.  Cakes are judged on creativity, skill level, cake appearance and frosting colors.  HAVE FUN!!  Need some help or ideas – give Rhonda Cerven, 4-H Cake Decorating Project Leader a call at 608-379-3091.

  1. Decorated Cookie(s)
  2. Decorated Cupcake(s)

Grades 3-up:

  1. Character cake, molded pan, using decorator tips
  2. Any other cake, may use other edible items as decorations, using decorator tips
  3. Any other cake, may use other edible items as decorations, not using decorator tips
  4. Special occasion cake (ex. Birthday, Christmas, etc.)
  5. Creative cut-out cake may be your own design
  6. Gingerbread house or other structured cake; may use other edible items for decorations
  7. Cookie Display; use a minimus of 20 cookies to create a picture such as a Christmas Wreath
  8. Layer cake using flowers (layer cake consist of one or more cakes put together)
  9. Any cake decorated with primarily fondant
  10. 3 or more cupcakes, decorated

Cake Pans

Do you want to particapte in the the Cake Decorating Challenge and don’t have a pan? Do not worry, Crawford County 4-H has over 100 cake pans for you to choose from. To view the pans check out this gallery or call the Extension Crawford County office at 326-0224 to view the binder of pans. Once you have chose a pan you will need to schedule a time with Rhonda to pick up the pan.
