2017 4-H Family Canoe Camp Coming August 7-9

The Crawford County Family Canoe Camp is designed for families with younger members and those less experienced in canoeing and camping, but is a great time for participants of any age or ability. This year we will be traveling to Lake Wazee in Jackson County and canoeing two sections of the Black River. We will depart late afternoon on August 6h and camp for three nights, enjoying the “rustic” surroundings and pristine waters of Lake Wazee.

The first morning after a hearty breakfast we will travel to the upper section of the Black River. This stretch has “a character all its own.” It starts in a wild setting and ends in a semi-developed area just north of Black River Falls. The scenery is outstanding; beautiful rock formations, often topped with coniferous trees much like those found in the wilds of Canada. Participants will return to camp that night for an evening of swimming, dining and campfire fun under August’s Full Moon. The next day, after breakfast, we will canoe the slower lower section of the Black. This section has gentle currents and is dotted with several sandbars.

We will make frequent stops for swimming, water fights or relaxing. Rather than return home that afternoon, we will return to Wazee for a third night of camping fun.

  • The cost of Camp is $25 per participant. This includes all meals, transportation and  three nights camping.
  • Participants are responsible for providing their own transportation but will be responsible for their own gas expenses..
  • Participants will need to provide their own tent, sleeping bag and PFD (life jacket).

Space is limited (approx. 20) and will be determined by the order of paid applications received.
